Monday thru Saturday on weekly rotating shifts of:
7AM - 3PM, 3PM - 11PM, 11PM - 7AM.
Position
Summary:
A Fourth Hand is a working member of a three-person team on the dry end of the paper machine that supports production to meet daily customer requirements and specifications.
Primary
Responsibilities:
denotes essential job function o Removes paperboard sheets from sheet boxes and properly stacks on customer pallet/skid on 2nd, 5th, and 8th hours of shift.
If sheet tieing is occurring, stacking could be up to every other hour totaling 4 hours in a shift.
o Properly packages pallet/skids when not removing sheets from the sheet boxes.
o Manually transports customer and warehouse pallet/skid from waiting storage to stacking position on pallet lifts or floorboards.
o Threads sheet tail thru dryers from press section to calendars when start-up or sheet breakage occurs, while in dryer pit.
o Rolls up and removes quantities of heavy broke from between sections of machine.
o Loads broke and waste sheets into broke carts.
o Reads and comprehends customer orders and machine trims.
o Locates, weighs, and organizes customer pallets/skids for orders to be produced on machine.
o Weighs and ties sheets into bundles per customer orders.
o Pulls press section roll pins while assisting Machine Tender who raises and lowers press section rolls during start-up and shutdown of paper machine.
o Performs following duties at shutdown:
a) cleans baseplates b) cleans press roll doctor blades c) cleans 1st dryer doctor blade d) cleans basement floor area under pallet lifts e) organizes dry end of machine for start-up f) sweeps floor areas o Performs following housekeeping duties at dry end:
a) sweeps floor and Machine Room steps b) removes pop cans c) cleans break area/room d) cleans under cutter e) sweep under scale in Machine Room basement o Provides assistance to members of dry end team during trim changes or when problems occur at the sheet boxes, cutter or calendar stacks.
o Fills in for employees who cannot work their shift.
o Performs training to learn duties of Winder Operator.
o Operates forklift, uniloader, pallet inverter, automatic banding machine, manual bander, and scales.
o Follows instructions and directives as assigned by Back Tender.
o Assists the Back Tender with his/her normal duties (i.
e.
pulling sheets, stacking sheets, etc.
) while the Back Tender is preparing the paper machine for production requirements (i.
e.
setting slitters, squaring sheets, making starch or wax, etc.
).
o Performs all other duties and responsibilities as appropriate to accomplish production and goals of Machine Room.
o Trained and/or assigned responsibilities that pertain to Beloit Box Board's ISO/9001 (quality) and ISO/14001 (environmental) procedures.
Primary job qualifications and abilities:
o Lift and stack paperboard sheets in increments of 20 to 50 lbs.
over a one-hour time period three or four times in an eight-hour shift.
o Stoop, bend, and twist frequently while handling 50
lbs.
stacks of paperboard.
o Lift 50 to 100 lbs.
frequently over an 8 to 12 hour shift.
o Work standing on feet over an 8 to 12 hour work shift.
o Work in environment subject to noise, hot and cold temperatures.
o Work in team concept as a team player.
o React quickly to changing situations in demanding environment.
o Wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures.
Educational requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills:
o Ability to speak, read, write and understand English.
o Perform paperwork.
o Good math and communication skills.
o Good teamwork philosophy and practice.
