The mental health specialist works one-on-one and in small group situations with Boys & Girls Club members, targeting children that are identified as in need of mental health support with the goal of establishing a trauma-informed after-school environment.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Ensure safety of members and provide services to meet the social emotional needs of children and/or families in a trauma-informed setting.
Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
Work with youth in one-on-one and small groups on a consistent basis by employing evidence-based practices that are culturally responsive and trauma-informed.
Provide individual and/or family crisis intervention.
Help with conflict resolution.
Provide consultation to and work in collaboration with directors to aide in a student's success at the after-school program and beyond.
Develop and implement SEL programming for all members on a consistent and continuous basis.
Maintain thorough client records, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to BGCA and DCF regulations.
Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts/activities, training/development and organizational initiatives.
ADDITIONAL
Responsibilities:
Participate in special programs and/or events.
Assist in or handle special assignments or other duties as deemed necessary or important by supervisor.
Sit in on meetings with parents.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff, volunteers, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External:
Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents, and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE RECOMMENDED:
Coursework in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field preferred Experience working in afterschool programs preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to function under fast paced and noisy conditions.
Good interpersonal abilities-able to interact effectively with co-workers and children of all levels.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
